World-first surfboards made from decommissioned wind turbine blades

At Draft Surf, we’re always looking for ways to push the limits of surfboard design while respecting the environment that gives us so much. That’s why we’ve teamed up with ACCIONA to create something truly groundbreaking—the world’s first surfboards crafted from a retired wind turbine blade.

Using material sourced from a decommissioned blade at ACCIONA’s Waubra wind farm in Victoria, we’ve shaped an exclusive range of ten prototype boards as part of ACCIONA’s Turbine Made initiative.

The surfboards, hand crafted on the Gold Coast, feature repurposed turbine blade strips that were inserted into the blank for the flex pattern and strength control. The fins of the board, made from recycled fiberglass, provide stability, drive and speed and the outer shell is further strengthened by incorporating recycled turbine blade particulate into the fiberglassing process.
